The Nachal Hame’arot Nature Reserve has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
There are already seven World Heritage sites already in Israel. Masada National Park, the Old City of Jerusalem, the Old City of Acre (Acco), the Baha’i Gardens in Haifa/Acre; White City of Tel Aviv (for it’s Bauhaus architecture), the Biblical Cities of Beer Sheva, Tel Megiddo (Armageddon) and Tel Hazor – all national parks, and the Incense Route – Desert Cities in the Negev (of which Avdat and Mamsheet, also national parks, are the most worthwhile to visit).
What makes the new park so special is that it shows human settlement for over one million years.
The park is easily accessible (it’s less than half an hour’s drive south of Haifa) and is a wonderful experience for all ages.
Mazel Tov Israel and the National Parks Authority!
